Why direct bookings pay off

When a guest books through an agency or a third-party platform, that booking usually carries a commission and someone else owns the relationship. When the guest books directly with you, the full revenue is yours, you talk to the guest from the first message and you can invite them back.

Direct bookings don't happen by themselves: a guest who asks on WhatsApp and gets no reply, or who can't tell what the stay will cost, ends up booking elsewhere. The steps in this guide remove those obstacles.

Steps to start taking direct bookings

You can follow them in order; each one fixes a reason bookings get lost today.

1. Publish a booking page with your brand. Every room with photos, a short video, its capacity and what it includes. Guests pick arrival, departure and how many people are traveling, and only see what's available.
2. Load your real rates. A base rate or a price by number of guests, date-specific prices for high season, and surcharges by day of the week and for public holidays. That way the system quotes each stay on its own and the page shows the same price you'd give over chat.
3. Ask for a deposit and explain how to pay it. Set the percentage and your payment methods (Nequi, Daviplata, Bre-B key, bank account, payment link). If you like, turn on a waiting time: if the deposit doesn't arrive in time, the booking cancels itself and the room is free again.

Common mistakes

Not asking for a deposit.

Without one, a booking can block a room and never show up. Ask for a percentage and turn on the waiting time so unpaid holds free up on their own.

Replying late.

Guests often message several hotels at once. Reply within minutes, or let an assistant answer in the meantime.

Outdated rates.

If the price on the page doesn't match the one in the chat, trust drops. Use date-specific prices for seasons and surcharges for weekends and holidays.

Weak photos and no video.

Show each room as it really is, with a well-framed cover photo and a short video.

Leaving registration for the front desk.

Send the pre-check-in with the confirmation: the details arrive complete and the TRA is sent with them.
